Cook the apples (or other fruit) but leave some pieces whole for texture. Put into a greased ovenproof dish.
Rub the butter into the plain flour until it looks like breadcrumbs.
Stir in the sugar.
Spoon the crumble topping over the apples and bake in a moderate oven for approx 30mins until topping is brown.
Ray is going to make custard to have with ours but ice-cream or cream are also good!! This is an old-fashioned English pud which practically everybody's mum used to make. In recent years it has regained popularity by being included on pub and restaurant menus.

I've just finished my dinner but this makes me feel hungry again! I better not show this to Steve otherwise he will moan about the fact he had to eat fresh fruit salad! That was nice but I must admit crumble is gorgeous .............
