unidentified

I spied this in the gardens and wondered if anybody can identify it, please. A seed pod of some sort but what vibrant colours: red edged with purple all in a green pod.
Wow! They almost look creepy.

What area are you in? About what overall size is the plant and what kind of flowers does it have? I will ask my mother (she's a very knowledgeable plant / flower person) and she might be able to help. Gorgeous photo - kind of looks a bit like the the way a Venus Fly Trap opens up.

@svarri

Thanks, Janice, that's kind. I've only seen the plant today so don't know about the flowers. It has the broad green leaves you see in the pic and is not very tall - maybe 18 inches I think. We are in the south of England and this was outside in a National Trust garden. I'm only assuming this was a seed pod because that's what it looks like to me.

@quietpurplehaze I'll have my mom look at it. Since it is highly ornamental she may be familiar with it. I'm on the opposite side of the ocean so it might not be helpful, but maybe :)
