They are very very light sponge and the icing is very sweet - too much so for me - and I do like sweet things usually!

Hilary, thanks. I liked the letter box crop after I had done it but I'm going to confess that I did it to crop out the poor reflections from the buildings on the opposite side of the square. Happy accident?!
