This morning's rain stopped and we went to Lee on Solent for our walk with Jinks and Flo.
I managed to get a passable shot of the Hoegh Osaka, a car carrier which was deliberately grounded on a sandbank in the Solent in order to stop it capsizing.
After a few days, the ship re-floated by itself and was then towed to this holding position. It is listing at 52 degrees and is being held steady by 3 tugs. From Lee on Solent, it appears to be close to the Isle of Wight. The wind by the sea today was very strong.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Wow, what a great shot and interesting story. Right place right time photo definitely. This looks an expensive exercise, tug boat captains don't come cheap. Well spotted Hazel you can add photojournalist to your list of qualifications now.
Thank you - it took several attempts and it was the setting sun which helped to light up the ship - it was quite a grey scene!
It's still stuck here waiting for proper recovery. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-30745137

I think the original decision was taken to save loss of life which could have occurred if the ship had sunk.
Babs, you are too kind to me! The ship is apparently carrying megabucks of cars.
I don't think that info has been given - possibly shifting cars, don't know.
