I realise other cygnets could have had mishaps but this is the first time I've seen just one in a family of swans - on the estate at Warnford where we went to see the snowdrops.

Great processing and composition Hazel. We have swans on the rivers.and sadly one cygnet usually means the others have been lost. Ours often nest below the flood line and they lose their nests and eggs if the water rises.

I guessed that might be the case. These are quite protected in a large lake on this estate but I imagine there are various dangers even there.
