The yellow leaves on their cheeks are from a cosmetic paste made by grinding tree bark with water. Women and children throughout Myanmar apply the Thanaka to their faces, arms and legs as a sunscreen and to cool the skin. I tried some on my face when I was there but luckily, no one took that picture. Ha Ha!
