Thanaka Girls of Mandalay by redy4et

Thanaka Girls of Mandalay

The yellow leaves on their cheeks are from a cosmetic paste made by grinding tree bark with water. Women and children throughout Myanmar apply the Thanaka to their faces, arms and legs as a sunscreen and to cool the skin. I tried some on my face when I was there but luckily, no one took that picture. Ha Ha!
Cool picture and idea.

They are all so beautiful! Did you have a way to give them a copy of this picture?

Keep your vacation photos coming. They are totally fascinating and your narratives are so interesting and informative. These gals are beautiful. But isn't that tree bark mixture awfully rough on their skin?
