Our group leader eased us into the week's hikes today. In the morning we did what 90% of Grand Canyon visitors do: we just hiked along the rim.
After lunch, we did what only the other 10% of Grand Canyon visitors do: we hiked below the rim.
Today we were on the Bright Angel Trail. For those who are familiar with the landmarks, the peak of the roof of Kolb Studio is part of the skyline in the image near the center. At right is a short tunnel cut out of the rock for the trail. Given the snow and ice, crampons and poles were very handy. Other hikers were turning back at various points because they didn't like their chances without those "optional accessories"! Bonus for the shot: the Moon!
