About as close to a dragonfly as I get now [Filler]
Bookmark from a set that Clare bought for her bookclub members. ETSOOI’ed beyond reasonable to [poorly] eliminate the tag and the distracting background.
Since my 55-250mm lens died, I have had no photos or posts of dragonflies, since they won’t tolerate me getting close enough with the 60mm macro lens before they fly away. I probably ought to get a new point-and-shoot that may allow me to get close enough, but I’m exploring another goal first.

@danette Hahaha! If it were a butterfly, I might do that! I have a good [email] rapport with the regional coordinator for my region at Butterflies and Moths of North America. But the BugGuide site for all insects and spiders and crustaceans… That's more “decentralized” and “by the book.”
A few years ago, I did take a photo of my MIL's painted-steel flower and sent it to my plant systematics friend with a made-up scientific name. I think I also sent him a photo from Quebec City of a sculpture in front of a restaurant — forks, knives, and spoons were welded to a stem and assembled as a plant — again with a “prospective” scientific name! He appreciated the humor. :)
