Carrying on my red theme, I took this last night when we had our weekly visit to a local pizzeria in Bedford. It is run by an Italian family who came here after the war and it is now mainly run by the grandson Angelo but when we first went there, it was the grandparents who ran it. It is lovely that they have kept the business running through the generations and they are a really nice family who we have got to know so well. All the pizzas are made by hand by Tony their resident chef. When he goes on holiday, Angelo himself makes the pizzas. They are baked in an old wood fired oven within the restaurant and you can chat to Tony while he makes them. A real family affair. It is a really relaxed place to be and is frequented by young and old alike. It is noisy with everyone sitting on old trestle tables and you often get chatting to people on the next table and we have made several friends throughout the years by going there!
@quietpurplehaze@gerry@grammyn@netkonnexion@kbuehl Thank you - I put this on before I went to work as I didn't think I would have time tonight but got done earlier than I thought and have had a rather wet but organised day!
@boogie Thank you. It's not always easy taking pics in places like this because I think people wonder what the heck you are doing although it is a very informal place and fortunately when I took this it wasn't too busy
I love places like this where you have to be 'in the know' and then you can go again and again! Nigel and I still have sad moments about Angelines, a French restaurant we used to love in Cambridge (specifically, in those day,s when our parents were paying!) The waitresses who were not in the first flight of youth used to come and sit with you on the banquettes towards then end of the evening and refuse to serve you the last piece of cake if they had their eye on it (although Nigel who was about 22 used to always get his choice!) We'll have to travel to Bedford instead!
It sounds like a great way to spend mealtime. The red checked table cloths are usually in Pizza places around here. Sometimes you find the friendly family atmosphere.
