I thought it looked so pleasant cruising down the river on a sunny afternoon. Can't remember which song that came from. Friends of ours have a boat on the river and we sometimes go out with them but I saw this one when I was out walking.
Was it - 'lazing on a Sunday afternoon - in the Summertime'? And yes I think it was the Kinks. I'm humming it now as I watch your boat cruise lazily down the river - lovely.
Lovely shot, Rosie; I can hear the tune in my head now: "Cruising Down the River on a Sunday Afternoon". I remember when it won a public song writing contest on BBC Radio in the late 1940s and became an instant hit. Not great music but the kind of tune that burrows its way into your head.
@wordpixman Thanks Arthur for that. I didn't think that it was the Kinks song I was thinking about but one which my parents played when I was a child which would tie in with the 1940s song because I was born in the 50s.
Thank you Rosie. I also remember a line from the advertising lyric for the competition which ran incessantly for weeks: "Write a tune for a thousand pounds, foxtrot, quickstep or jive" ... which says a lot about popular music of the time, but this was a smoochy slow waltz! (£1,000 for a song? Wow, that was real money in those days!)
@quietpurplehaze Yes it is a bit like that and I could easily get dreaming about years gone by and the things we used to enjoy when I was a child - Wind in the Willows was one of them
