Three days after killing the Sheriff, Billy the Kid and the Regulators tracked down another posse member involved with the Tunstall murder. They killed him in a shootout at a mill, but four of the Regulators including Billy the Kid were wounded.
The new Lincoln Sheriff Peppin lead a posse comprised of the Jesse Evans gang and Seven Rivers gang and engaged Billy the Kid and the Regulators in a gunfight at the Fritz ranch. One Regulator was killed, one badly wounded, and one captured. The next day the four Seven Rivers gang members were killed in Lincoln by the Regulators. Billy the Kid and his gang took up defensive positions in town and traded gunfire with the Dolan-Murphy ranchers, and unbeknownst to them, US Calvary men were with them and took fire. Billy the Kid had earned a new enemy.
