Trying my hand at photographing the stars, not sure I'm winning. Will have to try again sometime.

Very nice!

I've never tried it, so well done on that alone! Yes, you did seem to catch a shooting star! Great effort!

@annied Annie I'm not sure what it is. The stripe appears a little further to the left in the previous shot so it may be an aeroplane. Guess we will never really know! i like the idea that it's a shooting star :-)

Shootings star, an airplane would leave a longer vapor trail?

Very nice! What kind of lens did you use? So many stars. I should be so lucky to see so many where I live :)

@kskphotogallery Using my 18-55mm kit lens! I don't live in a city so our light pollution isn't too bad!

@salza That is amazing. I sold my kit lens recently when I upgraded to a Canon 7D. I know photographers don't like kit lens but I actually have many great photos that were taken with kit lens! Did you use a tripod? Sorry for all the questions! I'd love to recreate such a pic.

@kskphotogallery Yes - tripod, remote shutter release, ISO 3200, f/3.8, shutter speed 20 seconds. Taken from my garden with a street light about 60m or so behind the camera. I did turn my outside lights off but there were lights on at neighbouring houses and of course the street light!

@salza awesome! Thanks!!

I think this is awesome!!! The sky is beautiful here! My camera has a max shutter of 8 sec. so I can't do stars... but it's one of things I'm super excited to try later this year when I get a DSLR!!! :)

Great attempt, great results from the kit lens. Lucky you not having much light pollution. I love the touch of green in the corner.

Looks really great!

Very good shot, I like the corner decoration too.

It looks like a shooting star in the upper left and I think it's a beautiful night shot.

This is dreamy. You are very clever.

great attempt - and something I must have a go at now - such a long list to try
January 25th, 2014
Wow, stunning night sky.
January 25th, 2014
I think it's a great night sky shot! And an extra bonus with the shooting star! I hope you made a wish ;)
January 26th, 2014
Sweet, you captured a shooting star!
January 27th, 2014
great result for your first attempt. i wanted to do this in the islands as the stars were really beautiful but there were so many mosquitoes i just wouldn't dare stay out for long. i was shooting sunset earlier and got attacked by tiny biting insects. rued that i let it stopped me, but methinks i'd rather be cold than have malaria or denge.

Awesome, I must try this.
