Spent some of this beautiful afternoon just watching my koi. We have 14 adults and maybe about 10 babies —maybe more . Have a call in to the pond guy to come fish out the babies. Ponds eco system can’t sustain that many fish.
Nice to have a pond like this in your backyard. Our neighbors have one with fish as well. Last year they had to fight off a heron who discovered their pond provided an easy snack.
That's a nice big koi pond, you obviously don't have a problem with herons where you live. Our pond was totally depleted of fish a couple of weeks ago. We put a camera trap out and discovered a beautiful (under other circumstances) heron, perched on the side of the pond taking his fill!!
@judithdeacon oh dear how awful. I think since we have the fence and the pond is up on a terrace the pond is kind of walled off. Mayo be too difficult to fly in our walk up to . Haven’t had any herons -yet. We are more worried about raccoons...we’ve caught a few over the years luckily they didn’t find the fish -more interested in the hummingbird food. Saw some feces today that may be a opossum or raccoons so setting the live trap tonight.
