Holding on tight by sandradavies

Holding on tight

A nectaring monarch. I've captured the proboscis here. Monarchs use their proboscis to drink nectar from flowers to obtain the sugars and nutrients that they need.

From the top of the image you can see the antenae in the V shape, then the probiscis (straw) in action and under that the four legs holding on tight.

It's fascinating watching the bees and butterflies sharing the bounty.
Great closeup.

Great photo. I do love the monarchs. Haven't managed to capture one this season yet! Great clarity and it is really good to get such detail.
