The Catholic Church in Malta celebrates the most important events in Jesus Christ’s life (His crucifiction on the cross and His Ressurection) with great pomp and solemnity. There are also many lay organisations and hobbyists , who set up exhibitions related to these events. I will dedicate the coming days to posting of a few pictures I have taken of Alters of Repose and exhibitions because they are part and parcel of the Maltese society.
On Maundy Thursday evening, a Mass commemorating the Last Supper where the celebrant washes the feet of 12 parishoners (representing the 12 Apostles) takes place. The Holy Sacrament is then placed in an Altar of Repose for the adoration by the faithful. Such adoration will continue till midday on Good Friday, sometimes going on throughout the night. It is a tradition for the Maltese to visit seven different Altars and pray before these Tabernacles.
