Foraminated ....perforated or pierced with small holes" - F-word Challenge. for this week 2nd August 2015
(This is my own photos)
There's a pretty little legend
That I would like to tell
Of the birth and death of Jesus
Found in this lovely shell
If you examine closely
you'll see that you find here
Four nail holes and a fifth one
Made by the Roman spear
One on each side is the Easter lily
it's center is the star
That appeared unto the shepherds
and led them from afar
The Christmas poinsettia
Etched on the other side
Reminds us of His birthday
our happy Christmastide
Now break the center open
and here you will release
The five white doves awaiting
To spread goodwill and peace
This simple little symbol
Christ has left for you and me
To help us spread His gospel
Through all eternity.

Pansy shell facts
Plettenberg Bay's emblem is the pansy shell. This beautiful shell has a perfect flower carved on it's back by Mother Nature for inscrutable reasons of her own.
And nothing puts the pinnacle on a visit to
Plettenberg Bay better than actually finding an undamaged pansy shell yourself.
In fact the pansy is a living creature and not a shell at all. It feeds while burying itself just under the surface of the sand in very shallow water. When it is alive it is purple in colour and covered in short furry bristles.
When it dies it takes about a week for it to be bleached white by the salt and the sun.
Love your saying and legend. This shell is very similar to our Sand Dollar. Looks almost the same, ours is thinner, but life and actions are the very same. I may have to take a picture of some and share with you.
@flygirl Love to see your shell. I do learn such a lot. Not just about photos. Seeing the world and learning new English words. My vocabulary not always 100%
@hjbenson Ha ha should have asked me yesterday...We had load shedding. Not sure where you live. In South Africa we have load shedding at times due to a lack of electricit
Sorry let me go on...lack of electricity. Should be fun. Lets try. I saw your hobbies. Sound interesting. I did manage to trace my husbands family tree back to 1600. Three du Toit brothers came to South Africa from France then. Back to the photos I will take the challenge thank you.
If you want to do get-pushed this week, I would like you to take an interior night photo of any object, but only using candlelight for illumination.
