Karen and I were booked for a Doop or Baptism today. I warned the mother we were both inexperienced, and for something so important didn't she want to get a professional photographer instead as it is not something one can repeat like a casual photoshoot. She said there were no professionals available locally this weekend, so begged us to do it. I guess amateur photos with DSLRs are probably better than relying only on family and friend cellphone pics? We didn't charge her anything, but I still felt quite stressed about trying to get it all. Haven't started editing my photos yet - best wait a day or two and look at them with fresh eyes.
@365anne Thanks Anne. The cake was lovely, as indeed were all the eats laid out on the buffet tables. I particularly liked the cupcakes with the little sleeping babies on top, although I couldn't have eaten a baby myself!
Wow that was some do!! Good on you - I understand not wanting to charge but think you should - they will no doubt be better than what she would have got anyway.
Yes I find the baby cakes somewhat disturbing. Stop doubting yourself Desi! You are a fabulous photographer! Your portraits are stunning and you're continually pushing yourself to learn more skills. Start charging!
@islambad Thank you. Yes I guess the photos must be better than what she would have got with family cellphone pics. Next freebie is a wedding that I promised my "champion" on 29th July. If I survive the stress of that, then maybe I can consider doing more of this type of photography.
@narayani Thanks Narayani. You sound exactly like Janice who was my first couple shoot, and the person who was convinced I could do this from the few photos she had seen. I am doing her wedding end of next month because she has so much faith in me she wouldn't take no for an answer. She changed her wedding date to fit in with me, (but now has had to bring it forward even more because she is pregnant and baby due on her first planned wedding date! Guess I'll be shooting a bump before too long, but I'm looking forward to that.)
