When I was growing up, I went on a school trip to The Natural History Museum and Science Museum in London.
I still remember to this day the awe I felt when I saw the Natural History Museum when the coach pulled up outside. It remains one of my favourite buildings in the whole world.
This is a bit of a filler for yesterday. I went to see The Specials last night in Birmingham, and none of the photos I took on my phone came out very well. A great night though!!
@katharinehubbard Thank you. I went to the Salgado exhibition there a couple of weeks ago, and will be going back again during the summer for sure. This is a very pleasing photo for me because of the beauty in the symmetry and the brickwork, and just plain old because it awakens a childhood memory.
What a great looking place! Love your shot of this! I'm going to NYC to take in the architecture and people this summer for a 365 meet up. Very excited to see a huge city!
That is some cracking symmetry you have going there. Just looked at it large, and guess what...it's perfectly symmetrical. Very pleasing to the ocd eye :)
@amandal now I very much look forward to your NYC shots. Radio City, the Chrysler and the Carnegie Deli would be my requests if you are accepting them ;)
It's my joint favourite building (with Royal Albert Hall), I think if I had time I could look at it for ages - every leaf, every animal.... lovely and I knew as soon as it came up on the screen that it was the NHM, those Victorians knew a thing or two about building didn't they..
Love a bit of symmetry so it has to be a fav. Like so many others I love this place, both outside and in. Think it was visiting here which inspired my son to become a geologist. We had an amazing evening here too when we attended a Christmas Party given by my husband's company in the wonderful vaulted entrance hall, towered over by the fantastic diplodocus skeleton! Happy Days!!
Just a drive by commenting' , I still lurk :-) I used to love this museum as a kid (we lived in London in the 70s when dad was doing his phd) Very evocative for me, thanks
@lagerdalek Good to hear from you John. I do pop by every now and again to check if you've started up again! Hope all is well with you and your family. Am guessing the youngest must be nearly 1 year old now?
Super mono architectural shot. I remember the Nat Hist Museum well, I had and aunt who lived in London and I went to the museums from Battersea when I stayed with her (1950s!)
Wonderful old building, the symetry, architecture and lines..... ahhhhh! We are so lucky in the UK to have such a rich heritage, and all within a day's travel. This was the first museum I visited, although we travelled by car, my Dad had a Rover, and used to smoke his pipe during the journey.... I was nearly always travel sick, bleughh!

I had exactly the same experience - and it still makes me smile when I see it. It has such a sense of wonder about it. So cool. :)
