a view of Herrenchiemsee Palace on the island of the same name on the Chiemsee in Bavaria.
Built by (Mad) King Ludwig, who also built the Residenz in Munich, Neuschwanstein (fairytale castle in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) and Linderhof, but ran out of money when trying to build this, his own Versailles.
He only lived there for 10 days and died a year after work stopped on the palace.
His is a very interestng story if you ever get the chance to read it. Ever so slightly bonkers, probably why I like the guy!
I remember visiting this amazing place many years ago when the kids were young. He may have been bonkers but left some amazing places for us tourists to visit.
