Loughborough backstreets ~ 24 by seanoneill

Loughborough backstreets ~ 24

The corner shop from my main album yesterday, and as you can see, on the opposite corner is...another corner shop!

We are heading off for a week in the woods this evening at a log cabin in Sherwood Forest. It is a week to chill out, so Ben can rest and Sam can revise. We have a day out planned tomorrow in Hull, where I lived for 16 years, Rebecca and I lived for 11 years after we married, and the kids were born, so they can see where they lived etc, before we go to the theatre in the evening at Hull Truck to see Bouncers, a funny, philosophical play that I first saw about 30 years ago!!

The wind and rain is forecast to be wild for much of the week we are away, and lots to do today. I am not sure if I will be able to post while away, but the cameras are going with me. I am only a week away from finishing a year of B+W.
Lovely shot, has a nostalgic feel in b/w...

Definitely looks as though it belongs to a bygone age, although smaller corner shops seem to be returning to our streets, albeit now run by the huge chains. Have a lovely restful week away and hope that weather isn't too grim. We are off to Prague for a few days from Sunday and at the moment the weather isn't looking too bad!!!!! Famous last words!!!!

@paulaw How lucky, Prague is beautiful, and I am sure you will have an amazing time and come back with some wonderful photos. Try not to be defenestrated!!!

Love the contrast and the vintage feel of this one. Have a great time - hard to believe you are one week away from finishing a year of b&w - I have really enjoyed your b&w project and it has inspired me to do more b&w myself.

Goodness, I hope not, don't give Steve any ideas!
February 14th, 2014
Lovely shot, I think I prefer this one to the shot of just one shop, these just seem to flow into one another.
February 14th, 2014
Chocolate from one and beer from the other? Have a good week away
February 14th, 2014
@rachelwithey Thanks Rachel, a major DVD, board game and cards fest beckons, with a few walks thrown in maybe!
February 14th, 2014
Enjoy your vacation. I like this iconic view of British shops.
February 14th, 2014
Great capture Sean...and enjoy your time at the cabin!

Lovely shot...like the processing!

Looks like an archive shot from the 1960's!! Great for the social record of life in Loughborough.
February 14th, 2014
I so enjoy poking about little towns like this - super nice shot! Really like the details :)
February 14th, 2014
Great shot of a very quaint street. I like the POV.
February 14th, 2014
Enjoy your week off Sean.
February 14th, 2014
Superb-- as always---enjoy/take care and have fun!!:)

Nice capture of a moody scene. Your cabin stay sounds wonderful.
February 15th, 2014
Nice capture of a moody street scene. Have fun at the cabin!
February 15th, 2014
I love black and white and especially when it has a vintage feel to it! LOVE IT!
February 15th, 2014
Quintessentially English scene. Probably mostly unchanged for years except the advertising.
February 15th, 2014
this is really cool - have a great weekend away - and yes, I saw Bouncers at the Donmar when it came down from the Edinburgh Fringe 30 odd years ago (saw Up 'n' Under at the Fringe the year before), doesn't help when you work out how long ago it was.
February 15th, 2014
Beautiful black and white capture.
February 15th, 2014
I like the 3d quality, contrasty tones and the retro feel to these street scenes.
I hope you all enjoy your week away and get some decent weather to get out and about in.
February 15th, 2014
Brilliant set of photos, Sean. Have noticed "corner" shops in Nottingham - Tesco(ish) but still shops!
Saw Bouncers at Wakefield Theatre (Hull Truck Co) 1985. 30 years ago but still topical.
Have a good week.

@cliff cheers Cliff, that's when I first saw it in Hull! The old place has changed a bit!! Glad you like these, I'm going to do a book when I've got about 50 or so shots from Loughborough. Keep your eyes peeled for locations for me when you're out and about.
February 15th, 2014
Another great back streets shot Sean.
February 16th, 2014
A year of b&w, that's quite an achievement , but I have to say you have some amazing photos and have inspired me to try more b&w. Enjoy your week of family time, hope the weather is more kind. Relax!
February 16th, 2014
Ps I think your Loughborough series is so reminiscent of small towns when I was growing up, so it's quite good to see there are still the local and corner shops and red brick buildings, even if some are in disrepair.
February 16th, 2014
I like this even more then the one yesterday, something very British about it. Glad to hear you are getting away, if you ever fancy a break in a log cabin again my husband and I have built one in woodland on the estate.
February 16th, 2014
@cazla what a lovely offer, thank you. I hope you had or are still having a wonderful break. We are mixing fun with relaxing in equal measure!!
February 16th, 2014
A year of black and white. WOW. Let me say, you have really inspired me with bw photos and I really do try to channel an inner Sean when I'm taking them! I would love to know how you processed this photo. So crisp. Do you use a tripod as well? Have a lovely trip. We'll be here when you get back! I wish I had time to comment more, but it's just not there. I love this shot. I love all of them frankly, but this one will get the comment! Watch me pop favs on others. :)
February 17th, 2014
Your b&w's are great, I guess after a whole year the processing is a cinch for you. I find it very challenging. We still have corner shops too but nowhere near as many as we used to. It's great to see you still have them also.
February 17th, 2014
Great photo and series and a whole year of b&w wow that is dedication. Your street photography is quite inspirational and makes me want to try more myself.
February 17th, 2014
Love these rather misrable, mono renderings of backstreets.
February 17th, 2014
Such charm and interesting details in this shot, Sean. Lovely capture and b&w processing.
February 18th, 2014
Great b&w with so much detail. Looks like a great street! Enjoy your week away!
February 18th, 2014
Excellent series, Sean - hope you have had a good week.
February 21st, 2014
Great shot. Hope you all had a good week off and that Ben enjoyed his time resting whilst I'm sure Sam didn't enjoy his time revising lol...And Bouncers is a show I've being meaning to see for the last 20 years!!! Must look up and see if it's going to be on in my area soon :-)
