My dad: Sergeant Allan H. Jones, Tenth Mountain Division, 87th Infantry Regiment, Company K., bravely served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Dad was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for bravery, Good Conduct Medal and other medals/badges. Dad fought in the North Apennines, Po Valley, Aleutian Islands battles/campaigns. The Tenth Mountain Division trained at Camp Hale, Colorado, Mt. Rainier, Washington and used this training to traverse the Apennines and Alps on skis while carrying heavy back packs weighing up to 80 and 90 pounds
Thanks to my dad and all brave veterans for their patriotism, sacrifice, and love of country.
Great photo and story (and like the others say - handsome!) - those clothes look like a hindrance though - terribly heavy when wet - hope his skiing gear was better though the exertion must have kept them warm.
What a cherished photograph this must be. There are so many memories for those of us who had fathers that served in WW2. I remember the year 1945 and hearing that Daddy would soon return home.
