Rocky Shore by seattlite

Rocky Shore

I spotted these rock piles on the rocky shore of Cormorant Cove Park. These rock piles may have a message or not. After researching what these rock piles could mean, I found a book "Cairns: Messenger In Stone" by David Williams which is about finding these rock piles around the world and their meaning. I might purchase it. Enjoy your day. Thanks for stopping by.
Interesting rock piles. They do look as though they may have a message. It would be interesting to know what it means if you manage to find out Gloria

What a pretty rocky shore and an interesting find. Where is it?

An interesting find , not only the rock stacks but also the variety in the stones in colour texture , shapes , and size !

Nicely done.

Fav - love the detail and dof. (Cairn terriers were bred on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, to hunt out the rats from the piles of stones marking borders on farms. No wonder I have so much trouble with Jinks!)

Ooh - I wonde if the builders know what they are saying!

Great colors and textures !

GREAT CAPTURE.

Well spotted, they are not easy to balance like this either. I have tried it.

A nicely balanced image.

I love finding these as well...and I love making the stacks. Would love to know what the inspirations are. I enjoyt the task of balancing them and then admiring them. Makes a lovely composed capture.

Fabulous shot. I really like all the different colour and shapes of the stones.

Great focus making the little towers stand out from the background.

wonderful focus. Must try it myself one day

I really like this Gloria... and it's even better viewed on black. I find it fascinating that, in our Internet world, trends go global in hours if not minutes. One day this rock-balancing didn't exist and the next it was found all over the world.

@vignouse Thanks, Richard. It's interesting that these rock piles have so many different meanings around the world.

This is really interesting. Viewing on black gives it a wonderful sense of depth. These rock piles are so interesting - I've seen them on the beaches on Beaver Island too.

Great find. Fun shot and DOF. I know the Inuits used rock stacks "Inukshuks" to mark direction, as a memorial or even migration routes.

Great find and capture! My aunt from southern maine loves to stack rocks like your photo :-)

we have these over in oz too...nice shot

I have an idea that people mostly just enjoy constructing them - the level of concentration required to balance the pebbles can be very calming, rather like colouring pictures - which has caught people's imaginations recently... and macro photography! :-)
Great details and dof. The little barnacles on the rock below the left-hand stack are very pretty.

Nice shot gloria.

Nice shot.

It is gorgeous on black and I didn't know they were being found all over the world...very interesting. i would've been tempted to buy the book too!

Such a delightful find.. And very nicely captured! I tend to think of these along the same lines as inukshuks, meant to mark a path... But I could be mistaken...

So calming, fav:)

Love that rock with white growth on it!

Having hung out next to streams with small children I suspect that rock-stacking has been going on from time immemorial. maybe they have meanings. maybe the rocks are just there to be stacked! Love the shot with all the rich stuff going on in the foreground.
