Surfbird (Maybe) by seattlite

Surfbird (Maybe)

Okay this is another shot of what I'm pretty sure is a Surfbird. But, again, if I'm wrong and you think it's a Black Turnstone, please chime in. This shot was a few weeks ago due to a few stitches in my lip for another biopsy. I'm happy to say that the result came back as precancerous but leaves me with yet another scar...which is okay with me. Thanks for your views and comments. Enjoy your day.
Wonderful details! Great lighting! fav

Lovely shot, Gloria. Is this the same bird that you posted before or just one from the same group there ?

@markp A different bird but in the same group of birds that were foraging on the shoreline rocks. A mix of Surfbirds, Black Turnstones and what I believe to be Sanderlings were all gathered on the rocky shoreline. Again, I tried matching the bird with my bird book but it can be a little difficult to be exact. Thanks for your interest and help.

@seattlite I have had a read and looked through loads of images of Black and Ruddy Turnstones and Surfbirds and common consensus seems to be that these can be a problem to separate, particularly from a single image. Watching them in life, and also the wing patterns in flight all help to identify them. Given all that, I think you are right that this one is a Surfbird, but I still think the other one you posted before is a Black Turnstone. I think it would interesting to find a flock of these in real life and spend time trying to ID them, unfortunately we don't have them over here.

Looks like a Black Turnstone to me....I have been seeing and photographing them here in the Bay Area the last few weeks. They nest in Alaska.... Cute and active birds. Love the shot.

I like it. Don't know what it is but in England we might call it a big thrush.

Neat shot of this little bird - love the lighting. Awfully glad to hear that results came back precancerous - but bet that lip will be sore for some time though. We'll take a little scar any day.
