These turtles at Green Lake love the sunshine. Because of the dense foliage around this area of the lake, it is challenging to get a clear view for photos of the turtles.

@seattlite "I think" the name "Painted Turtles" came from the days when they were given as carnival prizes...sometimes they had little paintings on their shells. Along the way there was an outbreak of salmonella from handling turtles and not cleaning hands well, and that was the end of the "free turtle giveaway"...which was likely a very good idea for the turtles! If they have a red stripe on the sides on their faces, they're known as "red-eared sliders"!
