Brown Thrasher by skipt07

Brown Thrasher

This guy showed up at our feeder. The brown thrasher is usually an elusive bird which makes it all the more surprising that it has been showing up for short visits. It uses its long bill to rake through the sunflower seed shells looking for uneaten seeds. Just shows how cold it has been for such a long period of time.
beautiful thrasher ... lots of sunflower seed hulls!

He'd love the eats in my back yard as I keep the sunflower seeds plentiful! How exciting for you to encounter a rare bird today and to actually know what it was that you were seeing!

@Weezilou - Years ago my wife and I were more into birding than we are now. I bought her a book on birds. But I have to give her credit she had a good idea what it was before she verified it in the book.

@lynnz - Thank you Lynn! I think that is two of the reasons why our Rose of Sharon does so well. The hulls and the bird droppings fertilizes it.

You can hardly make out the bill. My snow looks a little like this. It is scattered for about 10 feet in each direction.
