Barn Roof Replacement by skipt07

Barn Roof Replacement

Our Amish neighbor needed his barn roof replaced. He said it was rotten in places and was afraid to work or walk on it. And so his neighbors came and helped him put on a new one.
So cool to see. Recently we were in OH Amish country and ate at a restaurant called Der Dutchman. There was a big Amish group eating right by us. I so badly wanted a photo, but I refrained.

@alophoto - My neighbor says he doesn't mind having his picture taken, but I am not sure about others. This is highly cropped. As you can see I had my 24-105mm lens set to 65mm

It's such a fascinating way of life. Good shot- even with the parameters you gave yourself.

This is such a good depiction of the story we've heard of the community coming together to help one another.

Fantastic shot of these guys working. Do you know why they all have the same shirt on? Somehow I don't think they have "Amish Roofers" embroidered on the pocket. ;)

Cool shot. How neat you have Amish neighbors.

@dyanstevens - The men's shirt colors and the women's dress colors are determined by their Bishop. Each, what they call settlements has their own Bishop. It also has to do with which sect they belong to. Mennonites are a little more accepting of our (English) ways. You'll see Mennonite women wearing sneakers for shoes and some Mennonite sects are allowed to own automobiles.

@mittens - We are very fortunate to live in an Amish community. Most are very nice and accepting of those who don't follow their way of life. But I am sure that they say the same about us. Our closest neighbors are two young couples, both in their 20's. One owns the farm they live on and has 3 children. The other couple have no children and are renters. Both like using our phone. The family that owns the farm are good friends. They appreciate our letting them use the phone and giving them a ride when they can't find someone else. They give us vegetables out of their garden and his wife made that fruit pizza for us. The renters are the opposite. Who knows why that is?

This picture, your story and then sidelines, really elaborates nicely on the things I'd learned about the Amish - your shot is so clear and detailed and I like the crop. Would be wonderful if all would adopt the idea of helping each other.
