Some call it Remembrance Day. When nations remember those who served their country in the military. We went to our granddaughter's school for two choral concerts. One by the second grade chorus and one by the 5th and 6th grade chorus. In between the two choruses performing, US Marine Sergeant Shorts, a Viet Nam Era veteran and former guard to the President and foreign dignitaries, gave a speech about patriotism, our flag, and what it means to be an American. As a veteran it was a heart touching event to hear eight year olds sing some difficult songs and sing them with such meaning!
@maggiemae - In some ways you are right, but I, like the sergeant has seen a less than patriot attitude by many Americans. What woke people up was 9/11. As the sergeant said, it was sad that it took the tragedy of 9/11 to wake some people up.
I'm glad to see so many schools participating in events for Veteran's Day. Children need to be taught a lot more about our history and those that have sacrificed for us.
I agree that it is our responsibility to let the next generation know how much has been sacrificed to secure their freedom and the way of life they enjoy and to encourage them not to take it for granted.
