This year local businessmen initiated an event in downtown Sharon called Water Fire. The original idea for this event was started 17 years ago in Providence, Rhode Island by Alan Redfern. A prominent Sharon businessman saw the event in RI and brought the idea back to Sharon. Three events were held this year in Sharon and with each one the popularity grew. These devises float in the river, each one is loaded with firewood. At dark they are lit and with the sounds of Polynesian style music followed by more contemporary and patriotic music created a very moving atmosphere. Approximately 15,000 turned out for this event.
