it's incredible how the little flash of red that came out of ann's mind had morphed into a challenge that a lot of 365ers look forward to every year.
in 2012, ann, alia and i would drum up different challenges between ourselves and some of our other friends would join. i did a week of black and white shots and i told the ladies that maybe we ought to have a month of black and white, but in february as it is a short month. ann readily suggested "with a flash of red for valentine's". so when 2013 rolled around, we urged ann (i called her 'the challenge meister'. her industry and imagination is boundless -- give her an idea and she'll put it into shape and form.) to set up the challenge. and she did! see here for old time's sake: https://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/16115/flash-of-red-february and it was an instant hit. i missed the second year as i was away on holidays and the internet connection back in the old country was atrocious at the time (plus i think they did a book club of some kind and it wasn't called "flash of red" although they had flashes of red in their photos). on the third year, 2015, we took inspiration from a book by andrew gibson. in 2016, i was again in manila and tried to post but i must've enjoyed the holiday too much as my february was not complete (maybe i should try and complete it anyways). i don't think i'd want to miss a flash-of-red happening again.
and so ten years on, flash of red is an institution on 365, i dare state that. why else would ross and company refer to it when introducing the black and white monthly theme in february every year! thank you very much, my friend, for your ingenuity and your dedication and, of course, your friendship. looking forward to next year.

as you can see, i went a bit overboard with my flash of red this year -- i had three!
A perfect month as Ann intended it to look! Most excellent results! There were a lot of names in that original post that no longer participate but it was good to see them anyway
Wow- talk about a flash back- Mary Beth, Bev, Nicole, Alia... so many 365 friends from then and now! My goodness Vikki- you have been so kind here, I don't know what to say! And it was really fun to see the first year's prompts- we might have to go retro next year and do them again (o; And I must say the three little pops of color on this calendar are quite appealing as well... things to put on the back burner for now. Your calendar looks amazing!
@olivetreeann - the dark christmas ball was red and i considered sc'ing it. but i thought it would be overkill, so i restrained myself.
i had planned on writing an article about the flash of red to submit to ross' blog as a sort of intro to february, but i got lazy as usual, then got sidetracked. but now i know i have to do more research, like find all the challenges you posted all these past years to make a coherent article. i'll probably do it for next year.
