A good friend took me out for tea and cake today to a little art gallery and tea room in some converted railway carriages in a little 'middle of nowhere' train station (called Erwood). I thought these milk churns on the original platform were a nice reminder of days gone by.
I also remember these milk kits from when we were farming. Harry used to take the kits to the top of the road in a trailer & leave them to be collected by a wagon. It was before we got married...I'm not quite that old! The lids used to have to be well pushed on or the milk would slop out! We have some now & used them to display will flowers outside the marquee when Jo & Anthony got married.
Ooh !! dear ! I remember them in my childhood days , when the farmers used to bring the churns of milk in their pick-up to be placed on their "milk-stand" on the side of the main road through the village for the milk wagon to collect ! Glad you had a nice outing make the most of it !
Nice to see the old milk churns. Churns are one of those things where I remember seeing them on the sides of roads when I was a kid but I'm not sure if they were still in use or just ornamental.
