Orchid

When my friend Nicola came to stay at the weekend she brought me a beautiful orchid. This is just the top part of it.
I'm not used to having an orchid. I hope I look after it properly. If anyone has any tips they would be gratefully received.

Just a thimbleful of water a week. I have several orchids and this works a treat.

Love orchids. They also like to grow in a see through pot & once they have finished flowering cut down the stem.

@foxes37 @dizzyd Thank you, both of you. It came in a see through pot and I've put the whole thing in a pot holder. Will that be ok? It looks better than just the see through pot.

@susiemc you can buy Orchid pots from good garden centres..... A good excuse for trip out one morning haha

@dizzyd I've left it in it's see through pot and then put that pot in a nice pot holder. How is an orchid pot different? I don't need much of an excuse to go to a garden centre so I'll go and have a look. Thanks Helen.

Great shot, beautiful flowers, my orchids have to survive on neglect, they seem to manage, but it is best to give them some orchid feed to help them flower

@susiemc Check out the pots on Amazon.... they have a selection of different colours & are reasonable prices. I think they let in the light to the roots & have drainage trays.

@dizzyd Helen you're a star! I didn't know any of this. My Amazon shopping basket is now full of all sorts of things to do with growing orchids (including 2 pots!) I must be a bit selective as it comes to over £40.
