Poached Pear-Stuffed French Toast with Spiced Pecans.
I went to visit Martha in Essex last weekend and I stopped overnight with friends on the way. Their daughter has recently become vegan. It happened to be her birthday on the day after I arrived and she had persuaded her dad to cook this very fancy breakfast from a recipe she found in one of her many vegan cookbooks. It consisted of bread stuffed with pears which had been poached in red wine, coated in batter and fried and topped with toasted, spiced pecans. It was delicious and I would never have guessed it was a vegan recipe. Fortunately for the parents she'll be going back to university soon and then normal service will be resumed. They are definitely not vegan.
