I remember when these AA boxes were very common and all AA members had a key. My Dad was a member and had a key but I never saw inside one. I assume there was a phone but I don't know if there was anything else. These days there aren't many of them left. There is a list on google of the number and where it's situated. This one is in Eardisley, one of the 'Black and White Villages' here in Herefordshire.
Well, that required a litttle research on my part. Over here in North America we have the AAA ( American Automobile Association) sometimes referred to as the triple A. And we have the CAA (Canadian Automobile Association) but the only AA I’m familiar with is ‘Alcoholics Anonymous’. I’m not sure they hand out keys for that membership but I too was wondering what else would be in that box.
@gardencat It stands for Automobile Association, the equivalent of your AAA. The thought of Alcoholics Anonymous giving out keys to these boxes made smile 😁.
What a great find! I think my dad had a car too. I seem to remember an AA car badge too, that I think fitted on the grill at the front of the car. Amazing what comes back to you, memory jogged by one picture!
