Hill Top - Beatrix Potter's Cottage

Beatrix Potter loved the Lake District and she wrote the books that we're all familiar with at this little cottage. I was quite disappointed when I saw the outside, I expected it to be very pretty but it definitely wasn't. There were lots of interesting things inside however and if you know all the stories and all the characters (I don't) you'd see lots of objects that are referred to in the books. I remember that Jemima Puddleduck hid her eggs in the rhubarb patch in the vegetable garden and indeed there they were. I didn't think to take a photo of them.

It was interesting to read about Beatrix's connection to the Lake District and the National Trust. She wanted the Lake District to remain as it was i.e. unspoilt, so she bought up lots of farmhouses and land and bequeathed them to the National Trust. She was a good friend of the Trust's founder.
Thank you for this collage. I visited many years ago.

A typical Lakeland farmhouse. It served its purpose as a working home. Lovely collage of photos! We were only just up the road too.
