This follows on from yesterday's post - Townend Farmhouse. This is just across the lane and is built on a much grander scale. It is a stone and slate galleried barn with a ramp up to the granary floor and the date 1666 is carved on one of the lintels. It's called a Bank Barn because it's built on a bank. At the back of the barn the ground falls away creating a lower floor where the animals shelter.
A very impressive barn. I wonder was the whole thing built in 1666 or was it added on to over the years. Is that a really giant hydrangea bush in the foreground, I wonder.
