Kitty and I went to see Jeremy Corbyn at Heartlands today. We were part of a crowd of thousands who came out to hear him speak. This is quite an impressive turnout considering that we don't have a single Labour MP here in Cornwall and the whole county turned totally Tory blue at the last general election.
There are some who will try to tell you that Jeremy Corbyn is unelectable. However these are the same people who lost the last two general elections and also seem incapable of beating him in a Labour Party leadership race despite rigging the ballots against him. It is also worth reminding ourselves that he has been elected as MP for his constituency, continuously for more than 30 years.
In recent times, British politics has descended into a charade of lies corruption self interest and media bias where politicians, and even entire political parties can be bought and sold to the highest bidder. To me, Jeremy Corbyn seems to be the last chance we have this generation, to turn things around. He is an honest man with integrity who genuinely cares about the people he has been elected to represent. Is it any wonder that the political establishment are so frightened of him.
Over coming months he will be attacked, smeared, bullied and abused but today I heard him speak and I looked him in the eye and I know he is our last chance for real democracy in this country and he has my total support.
Great shot...I'm not up on British politics but your comments closely describe USA's politics. Special interests, lobbyists, wealthy elitists do control USA's parties. Politicians are nothing but well-paid puppets.
Can't say I'm his biggest than but you have to admire his stubbornness a good chunk of his own party want him gone and yet he still hangs on. It will be interesting to see what happens if he wins the leadership contest. Politics aside this is a great shot really captures the emotion of his speech he looks a very passionate man.
@peterday He is helping us by him not being PM. He has a view which he's entitled to of course, but can't imagine it's mainstream exactly. Sorry SwingingBilly - you are allowed to hate me now :-)
@cottiac I find it very sad that we live in country where things like honesty, decency, a desire for peace and understanding and standing up for people's rights. is considered somehow extreme, loony and dangerous. Shows how far to the right mainstream thinking has been dragged in recent years. I find the alternative to this things offered by the Tories quite appalling. :)
Like Gloria I am not up to speed with British politics and do not know this man, but your fear for the future does mirror what we're going through in the US. What craziness...
@swillinbillyflynn Politics as a whole is a tricky business don't you think? By the way I should have commented on shot! Very good considering the lighting at such events can be not so helpful.
@seattlite@cottiac Just so you know.........Jeremy Corbyn is the UK's equivalent of America's Bernie Saunders. He is becoming a bit of a sensation and is gathering huge levels of support for his decent, honest down to earth approach to politics. Heis a real breath offresh air for many of us in the UK. :)
Not familiar with your politics - ours are bad enough. But I was down in Perkins Cove with all the boats tied up and thought how much you would like it. I am posting a picture later this week.
