I have started collecting old 78rpm records. The labels and the packaging are just brilliant. Most people have nothing they can play them on and so these old super thick rigid vinyl records have mostly been turned into plant pots of had their middles cut out to make coasters. Which is really sad. I am trying to collect one from each of the record companies of the day.
I have original Elvis, Les Paul, Bill Haley, Mario Lanza, Johnny Ray, Billy Fury, Bo Diddly, and all manner of 1950s super star recordings on 78. I feel they are an important part of the history or rock n roll. When Justin Beiber and Ed Sherran are just dust...... certain musical icons will survive the test of time. I feel I am doing my bit to preserve them in their original form.
Brilliant- they have such appeal! We have a record player in the attic which, as the trend is now for records, we may drag out and get the old records out!
