Another crystal ball shot from our Florida trip. Thank you for your wonderful comments about yesterday's sunburst crystal ball shot! I'm heading out tomorrow for a meeting in California and am planning to take it with me again - so much fun to use! Several had asked about the size of the ball -- I think about 50mm, ordered from eBay. Inexpensive there. This was one of many walkway shots I took while visiting our friends in Florida. Processed in Nik Color Efex with a soft focus filter. Upped the contrast in Aperture.
Still behind in commenting and likely to fall a bit further with this second trip this week. Things then settle down next week and I'll be catching up then. Thanks for your patience!

@mzzhope Thanks so much, Hope!! I really appreciate your comment! I tend to like geometric and structural kinds of photos, so think that is what attracted me to the walkway. I must have taken 25 photos of it in different times of day and from different angles. But this was my favorite of all of them so I'm glad you liked it a lot!
@salza@steampowered Thanks Sally and Paul. The placement ended up as the trickiest part and the only way I did it was trial and error. So happy to have a delete button on my camera so many of the shots never had to see the light of day!
@thirdjoe Thanks Joe, for the fav! We'll be in the middle, I think -- Carmel. I was there several years ago and think that, depending on time, I should have some good photo opportunities.
@thirdjoe I will! One of my nephews lives in LA and occasionally surfs near SD, and his brother lived there for a few years about 5 years ago -- also a surfer. Any suggestions for photo spots near Carmel? It would have to be something that could be done within about 90 minutes.
Stunning Fav! The reflection in the crystal ball is so sharp and that blue is heavenly. The town of Carmel is quite picturesque - I remember seeing a beautifully landscaped gas station there! You could take the 17- mile drive!
Wow, amazing!! Definitely gotta get me one of those crystal balls! :-) They just amplify the experience! Love the inversions...
If you do find yourself in San Diego one of these days make sure to look me up....would love to meet you and show you around.
I think it's great that you are using a prop to make your shots creative, so many people just shoot what they see and are afraid to add objects to the image . It's not a case of just photographing it in different locations, you are using your crystal ball to enhance your shots. (Not sure why I needed to comment you probably saw all the feedback in your crystal ball)
Very cool - love that you captured strong lines. I've seen these crystal balls since my first year at 365 - always with great results. I really need to invest in one!
@kass Thanks, Kass! I did the same -- I'd seen others using them last year and finally looked into it. I didn't realize they were so inexpensive. I think mine (on eBay) may have come from overseas and took a few weeks, but it was under US$15.00
@panthora Thanks Osia!! I'd take you up on it. It sounds like there are some great photographers in your area and a meetup there would be really fun. If I didn't already have other travel in place, I'd have done that this winter, given how miserable ours has been!!
@jo13 An early happy birthday!! Send him to eBay as that's the place where they have the most. It may not get here in time, but is well worth the wait! Thanks for your kind comments on the shot!
This is super spectacular! Loving the composition.
I'm glad you shared about the size of your ball. I have the 80mm, and it just seems too big sometimes - hard to work into a composition, hard to keep it all in focus. Maybe I need another!
@pixiemac Thanks Sarah! I used my Nikon 14-24 which can't take a filter as it has a fish-eye looking bulgy sort of lens. I was really low to the ground so I think that helped with the glare.
@michaelelliott Thanks Michael, for the wonderful comment and fav on this and the bridge shot. It was fun getting out of the urban mindset for the two trips and push myself to do some different types of photography. I'm glad you thought they were good ones! The one of the walkway using the ball is one of my favs that I've shot.
@michaelelliott You'll love it and be able to do great things with it! I ordered mine (size was about 50mm) on eBay. I think it came in from China -- took about 2 weeks. I've seen a bunch of them on eBay recently for anywhere from $4.99 plus about that much in shipping to up to about $15.00. So really, not expensive for a camera toy!
@darylo Glad you found this shot -- it's one of my all time favorites of my own. You NEED one of these balls -- I'd love to see what you do with it!! I ordered mine on eBay and it was cheap. Came from China or Korea and took about 2 weeks. Mine's about 50mm.
@taffy I love these shots with the balls--so creative, but this one really stands out. I'll look on eBay, but after another week. Spring + school = batcrazy
