Third of three images looking out the same window of our current (temporary) condo. Fulton Street, the once thriving meatpacking and produce distribution center is now a hot spot for restaurants and new development. Among the last holdouts are the three block stretch on the north side of the street, some of which is pictured here. Taken about 5:30 a.m. on a windy, rainy morning. Trucks are being loaded, pallets of something moved around, invoices change hands. It's pretty interesting to watch.
Thank you for your comments and favs on this series which has put two shots of this disappearing scene onto PP. I feel like I'm archiving a vanishing way of life that will be supplanted by Google and McDonald's headquarter offices, and high end hotels like Nobu. I guess this is progress...
Awesome night scene............your moving again Taffy?
I must have missed that during the busy time leading up to the holidays, I hope it is your choice.
@radiogirl Just a temporary move into the city so through the winter Jim won't have a commute and our car will be in a garage. Then in spring, back to Bill & Junko's for a short bit until we move up to the island. Won't be able to get into our place because of the renters until August 1 (when remodeling project will start). So really, we'll settle into our own 'forever' home in late September I hope at the latest.
You were up at 5:30!!! Looks as if you have rain or freezing rain rather than snow. This is my favorite of the series...the rain reflections, warm color, feel of the world just waking up
@jgpittenger Haha!! Not by choice and I did go back to sleep! While it isn't exactly noisy here, there are new sounds so I think I'll acclimate fairly soon.
I love the story this image tells Taffy. This is life as it has been for so many years with people getting up before dawn to make sure the food etc was in the shops each day. I really like this colour version. Fav!
Good shot- I guess it's the way things change in a city. Neighborhoods change as the demand for different things do. Yes, you are documenting a part of the culture that may not be there in a few years.
