Kryptonite

I mentioned long long ago, on a long forgotten blog about while the height of Taiwanese is growing, the height of things in Taiwan is not rising. This can make going outside a bit of an adventure as you must always be on the lookout for low hanging signs and other things that want to take your head off. But what really gets me are the low fixtures inside of homes.

I have never been a fan of doing the dishes, but in Taiwan I have a somewhat good excuse for being lazy to do them. Because the sinks are just a tad too low, my back always hurts when I have to do the dishes. Before you ask, no there aren't really dish washers in Taiwan, although a few homes have dish dryers. Machines that you put the wet dishes in and it will dry them.

The annoyance of washing dishes has led to one good thing and one bad thing. The good thing being that it pushed me to learn yoga, of which I do about 10 to 20 minutes of everyday as part of my daily one hour workout. The bad thing is that it has made me a very odd friend. Whenever I do something nice for a friend and they want to show their appreciation by treating me to something nice, I first of course say that it's not necessary, but if they insist, I tell them that I'd much rather they wash the dishes for me.

I also wanted to use this photo show another thing. Perhaps it's not clear, but in the sink's drain there is a green mesh pouch that catches the food. In Taiwan pipes get clogged very easily. Also kitchen sink pipes are normally plastic and they don't have an electric garbage disposal. All this means that there are various different products made available to catch the scraps and gather them up to throw away.

Then again what might seem like a minor annoyance, has gone on to teach me a little bit. I have learned a little something about plumbing from the fact that sometimes i have to open up bathroom pipes to clear out hair clogs. I must give credit to Taiwan, because some things aren't as advanced or as modernized as America, I've had the pleasure (yes i do mean pleasure as I do enjoy it) of learning how to do things we don't normally face back home.
