There are a few "rules" about dating in Taiwan. Such as the man can't be younger than the woman, and if you are not insanely jealous and controlling of your partner, then it means you do not love your partner. But thankfully as the years go by, these rules are going away.
One rule that does stick around is that the woman can not be taller than the man. Drug addict, alcoholic, physical abuser, all seem preferable to having a guy that is shorter than you. One of my favorite questions in my classes was to ask students if they could date a guy who was handsome, smart, rich, funny, kind, but a few centimeters shorter than them. I think of the 4,000 people I've asked, only 3 have ever said they could date that guy.
Granted this really isn't an issue in Taiwan, as for the most part women are not that tall. However there are some women who are tall, and I always feel sad for them. It's already tough to find a good guy, and if they can only date maybe the few tall guys in the country, than their chances of finding a good one seem impossible. With all the surgery that Taiwanese women do for their appearance (definitely posts about this in the future) I'm guessing it's only a matter of time until there is height reduction surgery.
This terrible picture is of a couple where there woman is a bit taller. Sorry to use a blurry night shot, but it's really hard to find a couple like this out in the wild. And I was following them for a few blocks taking pictures of them trying to get a decent shot. I am dedicated to you my dear reader.
