Today's photo suffers from the fact that i'm too shy to take people's pictures, so when I do I hurry up and take a quick one from an odd angel so nobody knows I'm doing it.
This is a street corner beauty studio. In that the "studio" is one lady sitting on the street with a bench for customers to come. Usually you will find them in groups of five or six ladies (there are four other ladies just near this lady) and while they are technically competitors, they are usually happy to chat with each other until customers come by.
As for the "beautifying" that they do. Well as far as i can tell it involves three steps.
Step 1: put some kind of white cream all over the customer's face.
Step 2: take a piece of string and pull it tight between your two hands, then press the string over and over on the customer's face.
Step 3: take some nail clippers and clip the eyebrows or any other hairs from the customer's face.
In the picture above she is currently doing step 3, and you can see the string used for step 2. I was hoping to get a picture of that step as it's the most unique one.
The customer is also important in the picture as you can see it's a senior citizen aged woman. This is because only senior citizen aged women do this. Nobody else does it. Even women in their 50s don't do it, and young women walk by and look at it in horror. It's really only for much older people.
Which makes me wonder, does this mean that in a few years all these beauticians will no longer have customers. Or instead of it being an outdated and old tradition, that in fact when women turn 65 they suddenly decide to get this beauty thing done to them? I'm guessing it's a bit of both. Especially since the more I think about it, what old person wouldn't rather just have pay ten dollars to just let somebody else deal with keeping your face looking nice. Yep I said ten dollars. That sentence would have made a lot more sense if it only cost one dollar, which is what I thought, but wow ten bucks!
