The Boiled Choice

You can tell that I'm limping towards the finish line of year two, by putting up a picture of what is essentially the same thing as yesterday. The difference with today's picture is that instead of being deep fried, the food is boiled in a broth. While it might not actually be that much healthier, especially given the food choices, it is viewed as healthier, thus the cost is higher. Also for one reason or another, these places are not as ubiquitous as the fried places shown yesterday.

Another big difference is the choice of foods. some are similar, but these boiled places usually have more vegetable choices and more tofu choices. But the main appeal are the "left overs" from other animals. this is where you can get stomachs, and intestines, and other organs. Usually they are cut up into tiny slices, but I do like that there is what appears to be a whole pig's heart at the bottom there. It adds an air of authenticity to it all.

I generally don't eat at these places, which has less to do with the food, and more to do with a traumatic event. Ok that's over selling it, but in the past i lived near a night market which had this kind of vendor. A friend really liked the food there, but the problem was the lady who worked the stand was extremely slow at cutting the food. So we would go the night market to get some food, go tell the lady what we wanted, go around and get the rest of our food, and come back twenty minutes later and she would still be cutting. So I remember many nights being starving and having to wait for her to finish cutting before I could be back home and eating my meal. Even the memory is making my stomach sad.

Anyway, there is one very special food that they serve that this boiled food stand, but I am hoping to get a picture of it so i can write about it another time. In fact i have collected quite a few interesting stories I want to share, but am having trouble getting a suitable picture that goes with it. Hopefully I'll be able to think of something so I can write those stories and really spice things up for these last two months.
