Joni Mitchell

This picture doesn't look like much, but it's a picture of one of the great facets of life in Tapiei...food streets. Well that technically is not the name as they don't even have names. But what i'm calling a food street is a street that goes on for several blocks and every place on both sides of the road is a tiny quick restaurant.

This particular one is right next to my previous apartment. At the time I really took it for granted and always struggled which of the things to eat. But now I would kill for a street that is one minute from my house and has a variety of choices.

But if anything it has taught me yet another thing to look for on my quest to find the the best apartment in the best area. It might be hard though, as so many of these food streets are dying. More and more the restaurants are going away and being replaced by small shops, usually those aimed at housewives (clothing, home goods, supplies for children). I would have said "stay at home parents" but there are never any clothing shops for men.

Now if you will excuse me, I must think about which restaurant I will walk 7 to 10 minutes to for lunch. At first i was saying that as a joke, but that 6 to 9 extra minutes of walking time, turns out to be over 80 hours of extra walking time a year. That's 80 hours I could have spent doing something important, like walking 6 to 9 minutes to the nearest brothel.
