We rarely get to see any butterflies at our place and I am always envious of other 365ers postings of them. (Same story as with the frogs. I spend a lot of my time being envious.)
So I had this grand plan to go to the Butterfly Sanctuary at Kuranda and take a mountain of shots of the Ulysses and Cairns Birdwing butterflies and hence extract my revenge on the butterfly posters. In particular, I had a certain Rachel in mind. This is going to be too easy I thought. Like shooting fish in a barrel, I thought. Its unfair on other 365ers, almost cheating, I thought
WRONG!!!!
I spent the next two frustrating hours chasing very uncooperative butterflies around a big cage. They were all on some sort of powerful stimulants and hardly ever sat still. And when they did, they were facing the wrong way, or too far away or too close or with a terrible background or they immediately folded their wings or, the worst of them all, the camera was too slow at focussing before I could get the killer shot. At one stage I seriously contemplated throwing my bloody camera at them. Obviously I don't talk butterfly speak like some people do.
This is the best of the Ulysses fabulous iridescent blue wings that I managed :-(
Somehow, you managed to get at least one very good shot. But I know what you mean about butterfly. Obstinate, fickly little f-----s. (I mean fellows, of course.)
I love your narrative, and had such a good laugh. They must have just fed them sugar or something, as the only butterfly house I've been in, they are really languid. But I admire your effort and persistence - a beautiful butterfly!
I feel your pain with both butterflies and frogs, Terry. We have no frogs and about the only butterflies that come to visit are cabbage whites. They really don't compare to this beauty 😊
