We had an afternoon thunderstorm a couple of days ago with some pretty spectacular lightning strikes so I had a crack (no pun intended) at getting some daylight shots of lightning.
It took a while and a lot of trial and error to get the settings right but except for the fact that the lightning wouldn't cooperate and get into the centre of the frame, I didn't think the results were all that bad.
This is awesome. You had pink lightning, how cool is that?! Getting lightning strikes is like photographing Orca Whales in Alaska, you have to be quick!
@ellida To catch the lightning, you need the shutter open for as long as possible but the difficulty here was that being daytime, the shot quickly blew out big time. As it was, I still had to do a bit of processing to scale back the light.
And it has only just occurred to me while I was writing this that I should have used my ND8 filter to reduce the daytime light. Duh!!!!
Good work. I haven't had much success getting images of lighting. Aside from long exposure there's a technology solution. A camera attachment called a Lightning Bug takes all of the guess work out of catching the strike as is senses the strike and triggers the shutter. I've been tempted to buy one, but haven't pulled the trigger. One of these days I will.
