Mount Ngauruhoe is an active volcano on the Central Plateau of the North Island of New Zealand. It last erupted in 1977 and I have no idea how to pronounce it.
Taken from the Desert (in NZ?) Road during a 3 week drive around the North Island of New Zealand in late 2019. We were actually trying to get a good look at Mt Ruapehu but it remained hidden away in the clouds
@taffy Hi Taffy, The light and colours were really weird here. All of the photos I took driving along the Desert Road had the same muted, purplish tones. Don't whether it was reflected tones from the ground, the atmosphere, or what.
It does have that Fuji appearance, doesn't it? I remember riding the train in Japan, and some skiers who were heading to Fuji got on....and then some more on the next stop...and then some more on the next stop. Pretty soon I was being suffocated by ski bags, boot bags, and back packs. Must be cool to ski on a volcano....unless the rumbling starts.
@dide Thanks for that. We got into trouble during our travels by telling people we were headed to Wak a tain. Where? Wak a tain. Oh you mean Fuk a tarn ae (Whakatane) LOL
@terryliv Yep - it's all a bit challenging. In the past, NZer's were even more shocking with the pronunciation. Now at least most people are recognising that 'Wh' sounds like 'f'. No wonder you guys from afar get muddled...
