The famous Champagne Pool is the largest hot spring in New Zealand and is located in the Waiotapu geothermal area near Rotorua.
The pool is 65m in diameter and 62m deep and has a surface temperature of 74 deg Celsius. The bubbles caused by carbon dioxide provide the champagne effect.
Taken during a 3 week drive around the North Island of New Zealand in late 2019.
I visited Rotorua when I did my NZ tour of both islands after I left work. It was fascinating! Smelly but very interesting! I thought you had popped over to NZ for a moment!
This is amazing to see. We visited Rotorua at New Years about 20 years ago and we were so impressed with the geothermal sites. Well captured with the people for scale.
