Like most small country towns, Springsure (pop'n 1,100) has lost its raison d'être and is struggling to survive and find themselves relying increasingly on tourists and in particular the Grey Nomads to bring in much needed income to the town.
These rocky outcrops overlook the town and are lit up at night. In order to increase their appeal, especially to the Grey Nomads, someone has decided that one of the outcrops resembles the Virgin Mary holding a baby.
We looked but couldn't see it.
I actually made that bit up about why the rock was named that. It's been called Virgin Rock since the town came into existence but the town certainly pushes it as an attraction. LOL
