One of our resident Blue Tongue Lizards made its first appearance for the summer a couple of days ago after being inactive over the cooler months. For a number of years now, this guy has had his home in a gap under the swimming pool coping.
Blue Tongues are the largest of the Skink family of lizards and can grow up to 60cm in length.
Love this shot. My son had a blue tongue for a few years, unfortunately he had to sell it when he went off to uni... Such interesting creatures! They are a pest here in NZ as they prey on our little native skinks/geckos.
Great close up though!
